Uber Expands Senior Accounts With More Choice and Customization

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15, 2026
Older adults can now create senior accounts independently, with new features designed to make pickups and rides easier
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Uber today announced an expansion of senior accounts, giving older adults more choice in how they use Uber and new ways to customize their ride experience based on their individual needs.
Starting today older adults can create and manage a senior account on their own, without joining a Family profile, by tapping the Senior icon on the Uber Account page. Seniors who prefer support can continue to use an account connected to a Family organizer, who can help book and track rides and manage payment methods.
“Older adults have different preferences for how they get around, and we want Uber to reflect that,” said Margarita Peker, Director of Family Verticals at Uber. “With these updates, seniors can choose whether to manage their account independently or with support from family, and decide which features are right for them. It’s all about giving older adults more choice and control over their experience.”
All senior account holders can now access features all in one place that are designed to make requesting a ride and meeting their driver simpler, including:
- Simple mode: An easier-to-navigate app experience with larger text and clearer icons.
- Pickup preferences: Riders can tell drivers how they would like them to signal their arrival, including calling or messaging, honking the horn, or flashing the vehicle’s lights.
- Optional self-identification: Seniors can choose to let drivers know they are an older adult. When enabled, this information appears in the driver app as the driver approaches the pickup location.
These optional features are designed to help give drivers additional context before they arrive, whether that means allowing a rider more time to reach the vehicle or being more mindful during pickup. Riders remain in control of whether they choose to share this information.
Uber is also piloting a new easy entry vehicle feature in nine cities for riders who may have difficulty getting in and out of certain vehicles, including seniors and people with disabilities. When the feature is turned on, Uber will look for vehicles with a lower step-in height to help make entering and exiting the vehicle easier.
Uber developed the feature with input from accessibility and aging advocates, incorporating feedback from people with a range of mobility needs. Easy entry vehicles are available to riders in participating pilot cities through their Accessibility settings, and they can also be selected through the senior account settings.
The expanded senior account experience reflects Uber’s continued focus on giving riders more ways to make the app work for their individual needs. Whether an older adult wants to manage rides independently, receive support from family, or customize the pickup experience, these updates provide greater choice and flexibility in how they get around.
